Individual admits sexual crimes against young males at summer program
An individual who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he managed.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member notified the police again.
She explained the defendant then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
